1 Plan UK Key Stage 4 Shoot Nations Scheme of Work (English / Media studies)
Plan UK have produced a Shoot Nations scheme of work, which contains English lesson plans appropriate for the National Curriculum’s Key Stage 4 Media Studies requirements.
The 4 lesson plans and accompanying resources encourage students to assess the power of photography as a media tool, and look at how and why certain photographs have changed the course of history. The scheme develops to look at how a photography based campaign can be constructed and how this campaign can be scaled up to make a global impact.
2 Plan UK Climate Change resources
Plan UK have produced a huge amount of resources for aiding the teaching of climate change, focusing particularly on the voice of young people living in vulnerable communities in the developing world. The resources are most appropriate for Geography and Citizenship at Key Satge 3 and levels. Alongside schemes of work (up to 14 lessons) there are international linking projects, issue files, country files, movies, videos and Plan publications to help make Climate Change more digestible to students and teachers.
3 Plan-ed.org
Plan-ed.org is the development education microsite for Plan UK. Regularly updated, the site contains a wealth of resources for teachers, students and anyone interested in contemporary development issues. There are schemes of work, curriculum mapped lesson plans, audio and video clips and a large bank of images from all over the world. Alongside these resources there are child-friendly explanations of what is going on in the development world, updates on disasters, tips on campaigning and fundraising, explanations of development concepts and links to interactive games and further research.
All the tools to explore, research and teach development issues are available on Plan-ed.org, presented in digestible form.
4 Shoot Nations workshop
The Shoot Nations workshop is a youth activity combining Plan UK’s development education expertise with the Shoot Experience photographic ‘treasure hunt’ model. The increasingly accessible medium of photography is used to engage young people in potentially difficult issues and give them a voice in the wider world.
A Shoot Nations Workshop Toolkit is only available to units in the Plan International network – please email hello@shootnations.org for more information.
